The best game of the night by miles tonight will be in Allen Fieldhouse as #9 Kansas hosts #5 Texas. Fresh off of a win over K-State this weekend, Texas rolls into town to face a KU roster plagued by injury. The rest of the college basketball slate is slim by all means, however there are a few games worth noting in other leagues.
CBB Plays:
Miami ML (-155)
The Hurricanes stand at 9-4 in the ACC this season with a 12-0 home record. Although Duke just picked off UNC in Cameron Indoor on Saturday, Jon Scheyer's squad is just 2-4 on the road this year, with both wins coming against bottom tier conference teams. Duke managed to come out on top in the first game between these two teams less than a month ago, but expect a different result tonight in Coral Gables.
KenPom: Miami 74-72
Torvik: Miami 74-71
Weber State ML (-110)
Blindly based on these teams' conference records, this line makes no sense. However, the analytics sites say otherwise for whatever reason. Weber State enters tonight at 7-3 in the Big Sky and 12-11 overall, while Northern Colorado stands at 2-9 in conference and a measly 7-16 against all competition. To further simply this pick, UNC is just 2-6 at home this year. I haven't watched much of these teams this year, but the records are too much to ignore in this case.
KenPom: Northern Colorado 72-71
Torvik: Weber State 70-69
KU/Texas Plays:
KU u75.5 pts (-110)
After barely managing to crack 50 points this weekend at Iowa State, KU is certainly not in a great spot offensively. I am aware that the 'Hawks dropped 90 on K-State last Monday, however, KU isn't going to have the same luxury of bodies off the bench tonight. Zach Clemence went down with an apparent knee injury in Ames on Saturday and Bobby Pettiford has been reported as "unlikely" tonight. With Zuby Ejiofor already injured and Cam Martin's health in question, and assuming MJ Rice doesn't have back spasms for the 20th game in a row, KU appears to be down to just eight scholarship players available for tonight's top 10 matchup. They might still win this game is the crazy thing, just don't expect another 90 burger tonight.
Joe Yesufu 1+ 3 pointer (+106)
As mentioned, KU is extremely short on help for tonight's game. Yesufu played 20 minutes against Iowa State and managed to go 2/5 from 3. He went 1/4 against K-State last week, so it's not a question of whether or not he will pull from 3.
Kevin McCullar 10+ pts (-135)
I have been on record largely criticizing McCullar's play this year on the offensive end. His shooting efficiency has been pitiful since the beginning of Big 12 play this season. With that being said, he's still managed to reach the double digit mark in points 4 of the last 5 games. He could very well go 2/10 tonight like his past couple of games and still reach 10 points from the free throw line.
Gradey Dick o4.5 rebs (-150)
Despite his recent shooting woes, Dick has been lethal on the glass in Big 12 play. The future NBA lottery pick has pulled down 5+ boards in 2 of KU's last 3 games, while averaging an even 5.0 rebounds on the season. Again, KU will likely be short handed tonight so expect some extra rebounds between Dick, McCullar, and Jalen Wilson.
Sir'Jabari Rice 10+ pts (-140)
Over the span of Texas' last 3 games, Rice has scored 21, 21, and 14 points. He averages 11 on the season, and even with KU having a strong defense from their wings, expect most of the effort to be exerted chasing Tyrese Hunter and Marcus Carr tonight, rather than Rice, hopefully opening up opportunities from the New Mexico State transfer.
Other CBB picks tonight from our team:
Bethune Cookman +7.5 (-110)
B-C (9-14, 5-5) @ TX Southern (7-16, 3-7)
KenPom: Texas Southern 75-70
Torvik: Texas Southern 76-69
Arkansas Pine-Bluff +3.5 (-110)
UAPB (10-13, 6-4) @ Jackson State (6-17, 5-5)
KenPom: Jackson State 73-71
Torvik: Jackson State 73-71
Texas 1H +2 (-110)
KU has experienced a plethora of slow starts this season inside the Phog for whatever reason. No reason not to take a shot on the higher ranked team tonight to make it close in the 1st half.
Texas +8.5/Marcus Carr o12 pts/Jalen Wilson o19.5 pts (+250)
NBA Picks:
Cavs ML (-176)
Cleveland (33-22) @ Washington (24-28)
Injuries: Ricky Rubio (CLE), Bradley Beal (WAS), Kyle Kuzma (WAS)
With Washington's 2 best players out tonight, there's not a single reason to bet on the Wizards. I'm probably jinxing the Cavs now that I've written this, but it makes no sense for the ML to be below -200 for this game in favor Cleveland.
NHL Picks:
Lightning ML (-120)
Tampa Bay (32-15-1) @ Florida (24-22-6)
Devils/Stars ML (-150)
Vancouver (20-26-3) @ New Jersey (32-13-4)
Anaheim (16-29-5) @ Dallas (28-13-10)
Rangers ML (-105)
Calgary (24-17-9) @ New York (27-14-8)
