2/14/23: Valentine's Day Locks

Garrett Hart

Let me paint the scene: Your girlfriend is demanding a high end Valentine's Day dinner tonight. Unfortunately for you, the restaurant bill is looking like it'll be upwards of $80-100 and you don't quite have the funds for it. Well lucky for you, we have some locks tonight that your significant other won't even be able to argue with.

*Now that I've laid this all out, there's a 100% chance our picks are jinxed tonight*

But that's okay!

Top CBB Games:

#18 Creighton (17-8) @ #24 Providence (18-7), 6pm CT on FS1

#23 NC State (20-6) @ Syracuse (15-10), 6pm CT on ACC Network

#5 Kansas (20-5) @ Oklahoma State (16-9), 8pm CT on ESPN

#12 K-State (19-6) @ Oklahoma (12-13), 8pm CT on ESPNU

As you can see, tonight is overall a solid night of games compared to Monday. We have picked a side in all 4 of these games, plus a few extras, so here are our key bets for the night.

CBB Plays:

Creighton/Providence o139.5

#18 Creighton (17-8) @ #24 Providence (18-7), 6pm CT on FS1

Myself, being the basketball connoisseur that I am, was on the ground for the first matchup between these 2 teams in Omaha exactly a month ago today. Creighton won the gamemuch more easily than the final score showed (73-67), thanks to a phenomenal performance from both Ryan Kalkbrenner and Baylor Scheierman. Unlike his previous teams, Gregg McDermott has opted not to play a "run and gun" type of offense this season. However, I fully expect this total to go over, as do the projection sites.

KenPom: Creighton 72-71

Torvik: Creighton 72-71

NC State +1.5 (-110)

#23 NC State (20-6) @ Syracuse (15-10), 6pm CT on ACC Network

Syracuse is not good this year, largely in part because their coach is 8-10 past his prime, and that may be generous. The Wolfpack are 10-5 this season in the ACC and 4-4 on the road. They also enter this matchup having won 5 of their last 6, including big time road wins at Boston College by 30 and at Wake. Expect a big performance tonight by guard Terquavion Smith, one of the leading scorers in the ACC.

KenPom: NC State 71-69

Torvik: NC State 77-73

Mizzou +6.5 (-110)

Mizzou (19-6) @ Auburn (17-8)

Currently standing as the #26 team in the nation as decided by the AP poll, the Tigers are riding the momentum of a last second heave that dropped in Knoxville on Saturday. Although not a great road team, we don't need Mizzou to win this game. Actually, I hope they lose in all honesty, but 6.5 points is a lot of points, even with this game at one of the tougher environments in the SEC.

KenPom: Auburn 81-75

Torvik: Auburn 82-76

Penn State +3.5

Illinois (17-7) @ Penn State (14-11)

Penn State has been anything short of great as of late, entering this game on a 4-game losing streak. However, this is perfect trap game spot for Illinois to succumb to with this game in State College. Jalen Pickett is currently on track to be an All-American, so hope that his teammates can do enough to slow down the Illinois attack.

KenPom: Illinois 73-72

Torvik: Penn State 72-71

K-State +1.5 (-120)

#12 K-State (19-6) @ Oklahoma (12-13), 8pm CT on ESPNU

Both of these teams enter this game fresh off of conference losses, albeit in very different fashions. OU currently sits alone at the bottom of the Big 12 at 2-10 in conference while K-State has slipped mightily in the past weeks, dropping 3 of their last 4. Expect a dogfight of a game here in Norman tonight, but I think the combo of Keyontae Johnson and Markquis Nowell tonight will be too much for Oklahoma to overcome.

KenPom: K-State 71-69

Torvik: K-State 70-68

Wisconsin ML (-120)

Michigan (14-11) @ Wisconsin (14-10)

Both of these teams are fighting for any real chance of having a shot at the NCAA tournament. Both are in the middle of the Big Ten, so just take the Badgers.

KenPom: Wisconsin 66-65

Torvik: Wisconsin 66-64

Bryce Thompson o11.5 pts (-113)

The KU transfer scored 23 in Lawrence earlier this year and has gone for 21 and 12 points respectively in his last 2 games. I can't imagine he'll go 7/10 from 3 again, but he'll have to add some production with Avery Anderson out for the season for the Pokes to have a chance to pull of the upset.

NHL Plays:

Hurricanes 60 min ML (-104)

Carolina (34-10-8) @ Washington (28-21-6), 6pm CT

Devils 60 min ML (-135)

New Jersey (34-13-5) @ Columbus (16-33-4), 6:30pm CT

Lightning ML (-125)

Tampa Bay (34-16-2) @ Colorado (28-19-4), 8pm CT

Penguins ML (-160)

Pittsburgh (26-17-9) @ San Jose (17-26-11), 9:30pm CT

Devils ML/Stars +1.5 (+107)

New Jersey (34-13-5) @ Columbus (16-33-4), 6pm CT

Boston (39-8-5) @ Dallas (30-14-10), 7:30pm CT
