2023 NFL Draft Position Rankings: QB/WR

Garrett Hart & Cooper Wright

Quarterbacks:

1. CJ Stroud | Ohio State | 6'1" 218 lbs

Projected Draft Range: Top 10

When watching Stroud and comparing him to the other quarterbacks in this draft it’s pretty clear to me that him at his best is better than any other QB in this draft. He throws an incredible ball and has great accuracy. The question marks on him is how he will play without great protection and weapons as he is not known for his mobility. With this being said the playoff game against Georgia was one of the most impressive games I’ve seen out of any college QB in recent memory and really showcased what stroud can do. At the end of the day he goes #1.

2022 Stats: 3,688 yds, 41 TD, 6 INT

2. Bryce Young | Alabama | 5'10" 204 lbs

Projected Draft Range: #1 pick

Young is probably the safest Qb prospect in the draft as in his two years at Alabama he was extremely consistent. He also is the best equipped to succeed in a not so optimal situation that he may get drafted into due to his mobility and quick decision making. The thing about him is how he will hold up as he is well under 200 pounds and under 6 feet tall. Overall Young probably could go #1 but we have him behind Stroud for now.

2022 Stats: 3,328 yds, 32 TD, 5 INT

3. Anthony Richardson | Florida | 6'4" 244 lbs

Projected Draft Range: Top 10-15

The biggest freak athlete of a quarterback we may have ever seen. The guy is straight up freakishly big, strong, fast and has a cannon of an arm. If he goes to the right situation that helps him grow as a quarterback and improve his accuracy and decision making he may end up being the best QB from this class, if not he could be a huge bust.

2022 Stats: 2,549 yds, 17 TD, 9 INT

4. Will Levis | Kentucky | 6'4" 229 lbs

Projected Draft Range: 1st Round

Much like Richardson, Levis is a prospect with a lot of raw tools and not a lot of quality production in college. Levis is a big guy with a huge arm who is a more than capable runner as well. Levis had a better 2021 than 2022 season and often struggled with accuracy and interceptions against SEC competition. If he can go to the right situation that can refine him as a passer he could be a top 10 QB in the NFL but without proper development he could be a bust.

2022 Stats: 2,406 yds, 19 TD, 10 INT

5. Hendon Hooker | Tennessee | 6'3" 217 lbs

Projected Draft Range: 2nd-3rd Round

Hooker is 25 years old coming off an ACL tear but some people in the NFL draft world have him going in the first round. While I like Hooker as a player, there’s a few concerning things about him as a prospect. One being that Tennessee’s offense that he flourished in was not a pro style offense and he often only had to make one read and throw to an open receiver. While Hooker may struggle making multiple reads in the NFL, he does throw a very good ball and is pretty mobile. Look for him to be given a starting QB shot at some point with a team.

2022 Stats: 3,135 yds, 27 TD, 2 INT

Wide Receivers

1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba | Ohio State | 6'0" 196 lbs

Projected Draft Range: 10-20

When multiple professional scouts say that Smith-Njigba was the best receiver on Ohio State two years ago over Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave then it’s a good bet the guy is going to be good. Smith-Njigba has seen his stock rise and fall depending on who you talk to, due to his injuries but many front office guys think he’s the best receiver in the draft and it’s not close. He is the most technical receiver in the draft with his routes, has good hands and good speed. There’s a good chance he’s a top 10 talent that goes later than he should, largely as a result of missing this past season due to injury.

2021 Stats: 95 Rec, 1,606 yds, 9 TD

2. Zay Flowers | Boston College | 5'9" 182 lbs

Projected Draft Range: Mid 1st-Early 1st Round

Flowers has seen his stock skyrocket since the season has ended. An electrifying player who can take the top off of a defense, Flowers is a big play threat whenever he’s on the field. While he only goes about 5’10, 180 pounds he has elite speed as he showed with his 4.42 40 yard dash. Flowers is also great after the catch as he is super quick and showed this on a Boston College team that was not very good. Look for a team who wants a vertical passing game threat to draft Flowers in the first round

2022 Stats: 78 Rec, 1,077 yds, 12 TD

3. Quentin Johnston (TCU) | 6'3" 208 lbs

Projected Draft Range: Mid 1st - Early 2nd Round

Quite possibly the best athlete in this year’s draft to not be invited by the NFL to the draft, Johnston could still make a case as a real 1st rounder. Outside of a quiet night in the national championship against Georgia, Johnston more than delivered throughout the season on some of the sports’ biggest stages, including 14 receptions for 206 yds and a last-minute TD against Kansas, which was hosting College GameDay for the first time in the program’s history. To top this, Johnston totaled 139 yds against K-State in the Big 12 Championship and 163 yds with a TD in the Fiesta Bowl. Known largely for his breakaway speed and large stature at 6’4” 220 lbs, Johnston has the potential to step into the league as a #1 receiver from the get-go. The only consistent concern, which could lead to a potential slide down draft boards, is an inability at time to secure balls in contested scenarios, as we saw with his 4 yd performance in the natty.

2022 Stats: 60 Rec, 1,069 yds, 6 TD

4. Jordan Addison (USC) | 5'11" 173 lbs

Projected Draft Range: Late 1st - Early 2nd Round

The 2021 Biletnikoff winner had an amazing year at Pitt in 2021 then transferred to USC in 2022. Addison is a polished prospect who has good route running and RAC ability. He will likely play primarily in the slot in the NFL due to hsi smaller stature. Teams that need a guy who can make a big play should take a long hard look at Addison in the coming weeks.

2022 Stats: 59 Rec, 879 yds, 8 TD

5. Jalin Hyatt | Tennessee | 6'0" 176 lbs

Projected Draft Range: Late 1st - 2nd Round

Hyatt is an interesting prospect as he can fly after showing off his 4.40 forty yard dash and backed up his speed with production on the field winning the Biletnikoff award for best receiver in the country. Many people question how he will translate to the NFL matched up on outside corners because many of his routes gave him free releases due to Heupel’s scheme that put him in wide splits and was nothing close to a pro style offense.

2022 Stats: 67 Rec, 1,267 yds, 15 TD
